Default Vengsarkar to take up IPL job

NEW DELHI: The cash rich Indian Premier League has reportedly roped in Dilip Vengsarkar as the Director of Cricket Operations for a whooping fee of Rs 1 crore. Vengsarkar's tenure at the helm of selection committe ends this September and the former Indian captain is slated to be part of the Governing Council of the IPL. ( Watch )

However the Colonel refused to comment on the nature of contract offered to him by the BCCI and even the IPL officials have refused to divulge any details.

Dilip Vengsarkar's relations with board officials strained last year when the BCCI banned him from writing columns in newspapers. With Vengsarkar accepting the post of IPL's Director of Cricket Operations, he will join three former Indian Test players Sunil Gavaskar, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Ravi Shastri in the IPL governing council.

Although Vengsarkar and the IPL authorities refused to comment, other sources in the Cricket Board confirmed that Vengsarkar has been offered a contract with a rider that he should not associate himself with any league that does not have the sanction of the BCCI.

"During the period of the contract and two years after its termination he's not supposed to be involved directly or indirectly with any other league that is not sanctioned by the BCCI," the sources revealed.
