A 263-run partnership between Michael Dighton and Ricky Ponting has seen the Tasmanian Tigers cruise to a nine-wicket victory over NSW in their Ford Ranger Cup clash at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.
The Tigers overhauled the Blues' target of 264 with five overs to spare as both batsmen reached triple figures - Dighton finishing unbeaten on 146 from 138 deliveries while Ponting mustered 111 from 134 balls faced.
Dighton was the first to reach triple-figures with a flick behind square-leg for four, but the Australian skipper was right on his heels as the pair plundered the Blues attack to all corners of the famous ground.
Ponting did present two chances on his way to his second interstate one-day century, with Dominic Thornely grassing a chance on 61, while Mark Cameron failed to grasp a tough return catch with his score on 82.
The competition leaders cruised to 1-128 after 25 overs after overcoming the early loss of opener Travis Birt who fell caught behind to Nathan Bracken's first delivery to leave the visitors at 1-3 in the second over of their pursuit.
The dismissal brought Ponting to the crease who together with Dighton set about reeling in the hosts total, putting on a swift 50-run partnership from 55 balls.
It was a tough day at the office for the Blues' attack with Bracken the only wicket-taker.
