Default AUS vs IND: Authorities ready to clamp down on racial abuse

Cricketing authorities in Australia have promised life bans from the Melbourne Cricket Ground for anyone found guilty of racial abuse during the first Test against India.

The tourists are scheduled to start their Down Under tour on December 26 with memories of the racial abuse suffered by Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds during Australia’s recent visit to India, still fresh in the memory.

Not surprisingly, Cricket Australia (CA) are adopting a tough stance.

“Our message to any mindless people who are thinking of going down that path is we won't tolerate that sort of thing,” CA spokesman Peter Young told Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper.

“We will find anyone who does it, they will be ejected from the ground and they face life bans from ever re-entering the ground.”

Police officers will also be checking for any offensive or racist slogans on banners, while cricket fans attending the match are being urged to report any unruly behaviour to MCG staff or the police.
