Brad Hogg Quits International Cricket
Australian spinner Brad Hogg has announced his retirement from international cricket.
The 37-year-old played seven Test matches for Australia including three this summer against India.
But he was far more successful in the one-day arena, where he has played 121 one-day internationals, taking 154 wickets.
Hogg will conclude his international career after the current tri-series against India and Sri Lanka but has left open the option of playing for Western Australia again next season.
Hogg said he had considered ending his career after Australia's World Cup triumph in the Caribbean last year, but felt that Shane Warne's retirement gave him a chance to get back in the Test side following a long absence.
"My career started against India and I thought if I can play Test cricket against India that would be fantastic," said Hogg.
"I wanted to fight to get back in there and I did it and I achieved what I wanted to achieve."
Hogg said another factor in his decision was that his wife was due to give birth in May.
He said he had no regrets about his career and there were many highlights, most notably the receiving of his first baggy green cap.
He said playing with "legends" such as Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath was a wonderful experience that many cricket fans could only dream about.
Honestly, I don't see this as a loss for Australian Cricket. He wasn't anything special. He never spun the ball much and didn't have any variety. This'll hopefully give another spinner the chance to step up and prove themselves as Stuart McGill is past his prime and should retire as well due to his on going injuries and lack of match fitness.
