Bresnan recalled for injured Shazhad

England have been forced to recall all-rounder Tim Bresnan to the squad for the first test with Pakistan which starts tomorrow. The Yorkshireman...

England have been forced to recall all-rounder Tim Bresnan to the squad for the first test with Pakistan which starts tomorrow. The Yorkshireman replaces Amjad Shazhad who has been suffering with an ankle injury.

After being involved in the majority of England’s games this summer, Bresnan was dropped from the original 12-man squad, but the selectors have shown that he is still very much in their plans by automatically recalling him after Shazhad’s injury.

As for Shazhad, well this is a bitter blow for him. He would have keen to build on the impression he has already made during his test career.

Although online sports betting pundits note that the medical team have said he “hasn't been ruled unavailable for the second Npower Test starting next week”, it is still a frustrating setback for the young bowler.

Should Bresnan play against Pakistan and make a good impression, Shazhad will slip down the pecking order once more after originally being preferred to the Yorkshire all-rounder.

There is still a good chance that Bresnan won’t be involved at Trent Bridge though. England are expected to go with a four-man bowling attack and James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Steven Finn and Graeme Swann are likely to fill these spots.

In terms of the batting line-up, Kevin Pietersen is set to return as one of six batsmen, with current test keeper Matt Prior filling the No.7 slot. England’s team in full, with Bresnan missing out, will probably be as follows:

Andrew Strauss

Alistair Cook

Jonathon Trott

Kevin Pietersen

Paul Collingwood

Eoin Morgan

Matt Prior

Stuart Broad

Graeme Swann

Steven Finn

James Anderson

This is about as strong as England get in the test arena and there is also a good chance according to Cricket Betting experts it will be the team that lines up in the first Ashes test later this year.

Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Bresnan and Shazhad might have something to say about that, but during a test series against Pakistan, of which Ricky Ponting will be “be keeping an eye on” every single player will want to impress and help England to a successive test series win in the Summer of 2010.

"That's not a good game you want to go back to in the video log," Wells said. "You move on. I've been throwing the ball better and that's in the past."

"I give Wells credit," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said. "We had the leadoff man on, and we couldn't get anything around and getting him to score."air jordan shoes

This is a key series for the Cubs, who inched up one game and now are 10 behind the Cardinals in the National League Central. Chicago is 17-27 against division rivals and 27-26 against all other teams this season.ghd straighteners. Before the game, La Russa said he's not counting the Cubs out.

"We just have to play," Piniella said. "Tony's very cautious
Colvin got things started with his first leadoff homer, hitting a 2-0 pitch from Jeff Suppan (0-6) into the right-field seats. Colvin is the first Cubs left-handed rookie to reach 14 homers since Rafael Palmeiro did so in 1987.

The rookie keeps saying he's not a home run hitter, yet now has matched his total from last year at Double-A Tennessee.

"I just backspin balls and sometimes I get under them extra and they go out," Colvin said. "As soon as I start thinking home runs, I'll make an out. I have to stick with the line drives."

Soto made it 2-0 with his leadoff blast in the fourth, his 14th, and has homered in three straight games for the first time in his career. Soriano connected with two outs and a runner at first for his 18th home run.

The Cubs added a run in the sixth on the shortest hit of the game, distance-wise. Ryan Theriot was on second with two outs when Starlin Castro popped up. Suppan pointed to it, catcher Jason LaRue camped underneath it, but the ball dropped and Theriot, who took off on contact, scored.

TEAM INDIA opening batsman Virender Sehwag has been forced out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2010 due to a shoulder injury and he has been replaced by Tamil Nadu batsman Murali Vijay in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup tournament that will start from April 30.

Sehwag was injured during a match of the Indian Premier League, while playing for the Delhi Daredevils. The ace cricketer has been asked to take rest for 3 to 4 weeks, thus ruling him out of the T20 world cup tournament.

ICC selectors have picked up Tamil Nadu and and Chennai Super Kings batsman Murali Vijay to replace Sehwag. Gautam Gambhir has been the vice captain of the team.

This is a shocking news for Team India because Virender Sehwag is a crucial member of team and he was also an important player in the Indian victory in T20 world Cup in South Africa.

A similar injury to Sehwag had rocked India's campaign in the previous edition of the Twenty20 world cup in England. Although he travelled along with the team, he did not play a game there.
The T20 World Cup will start from April 30 in the West Indies.

Warne slams Strauss rest

Australian cricket legend Shane Warne says that Andrew Strauss's decision to rest himself for England's series against Bangladesh is "disrespectful" to Test cricket.

Fellow batsman Alistair Cook will skipper the side during the six week tour after Strauss pulled out saying he felt jaded, an excuse that Warne feels is unacceptable.

"It's a lack of respect for Test cricket," said the Australian bowling legend.

"It's disappointing that the captain of England decides to have a rest from a Test series, I can't comprehend that."

Strauss said that he made the decision to ensure he was fit and fresh for a tough 18 months of international cricket which includes an Ashes series in Australia and a World Cup. The betting for both of these competitions indicates England face a tough task and their captain will need to be at the height of his powers.

Furthermore, Cook is seen as the natural successor to Strauss after captaining the most of the England youth sides, but he has struggled with his game in recent months.

However, Bangladesh is seen as the perfect place for him to score runs as the Tigers are not classed among the elite of the Test-playing nations. Cook will undoubtedly do a fine job and learn an immeasurable amount about the art of captaincy out there.

The sports betting suggests England should win comfortably, and surely now is the time to blood new players.

Indeed, with all the negativity surrounding Strauss' withdrawal, everyone has forgotten to talk about who will play instead of him during the series. The absence of the captain leaves a gap in the batting line-up and represents a fantastic opportunity for whoever is given the nod.

Most people's money is on Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry who was the third highest run scorer in the 2009 County Championship.

Carberry has long been tipped for the top after representing the Three Lions at youth levels but he has struggled to fulfil his early promise.

After an unimpressive start to his life as a first class cricketer he failed to secure a place at his home county, Kent.

However since his 2005 move to Hampshire, the left hander has gone from strength, starring for the England Lions and becoming an integral part of his county side.

Now 29, Carberry has matured immeasurably as a player and is ready to make the step up to full international level.

India without two key men for South Africa test

Image: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1146/575631036_3a5f10390c_m.jpg

India are going to have to cope without injured duo Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh for the first test against South Africa. The news is a big blow for them as two of the best teams in the world go head to head in a two match test series.

Dravid will be sidelined for three weeks with a fractured cheekbone, an injury he picked up after being hit by a short delivery during the second Test against Bangladesh recently. As for Singh, he injured his wrist in the same game and will definitely miss both matches against the Proteas.

Even Dravid's involvement in the second game is in doubt after he was advised to rest for three weeks, but a decision on this will be made at a later date.
There is no doubt that India will miss both players though as they each bring a great deal to the number one test team in the world and the injuries should be reflect in the betting for the series.

Dravid is one of the most experienced batsmen in test cricket and is a rock for India at three, while Singh's useful left arm spin and explosive batting mean that he has become an established member of the test team in the last 12 months.

India's preparations for the series are much more stable than those of their opponents though. South Africa have been thrown into turmoil after head coach Mickey Arthur resigned from his position this week.
It is thought that he had a disagreement with Cricket South Africa, who have also sacked the entire selection committee. Corrie van Zyl will act as a caretaker coach for Indian tour, while Gerald Majola will head an emergency selection panel.

All in all, it should be a very interesting and unpredictable series. Both teams are fighting to be established as the best test team in the world and it should be extremely competitive.

It may well turn out to be which team can put their off-field issues to one side and let their cricket do the talking.

Currently, the cricket betting makes India favourites to take the series, although South Africa will be looking to push them hard.

There are arguably no better batsman to watch than Virender Sehwag when he is at his best. The word destructive doesn't quite do hime justice.

He is a player that doesn't pride himself on an excellent technique or a flawless game, but boy can he hit the ball. He can take the game away from the opposition as he has done on many occasions.

This cricket blog on test match betting actually speaks about how good Sehwag is in comparison to Sachin Tendulkar. Personally, I don't think he is quite at that level, but he has time on his side to prove me wrong.

Thoughts?

It is fair to say that Ian Bell has had a fairly up and down test career. He has been in the side and out of the side quite a lot with some people even suggesting that he will never quite make it as a test player.

However, he has an abundance of talent and if this cricket blog on the South Africa v England test series is anything to go by, he seems to have sorted himself out mentally as well.

So, I am expecting big things from him this winter. I certainly hope he gets some runs anyway. Like I have already said, he has so much talent and it would be a shame if he never achieved what he was capable of.

If he can have one excellent tour, then he could really kick on and be a fixture of this England side for years to come. There is the argument that he won't get in the side with Jonathan Trott doing so well, but hopefully this will just add to his determination.

Sachin Tendulkar is the best batsman I have ever seen. He is excellent to watch, he is an excellent role model and his record speak for itself. Only a handful of players can live up to their world wide reputation and back it up with some quite remarkable statistics.

He has been playing cricket for 20 years now and is still going strong. At 36-years-old, he is still scoring test match centuries and remains the driving force of the Indian batting line-up.

He averages a remarkable 54.79 in 160 test matches and has reached three figures on no less than 43 occasions. Quite a remarkable record, I'm sure you will agree.

There is no doubt that he will go down in cricket history and rightly so. He is a remarkable professional who has always played the game in the correct way.

He isn't even done yet as this international cricket blog suggests. The end may be close, but you just know that he will go out on a high note.

I admit that this blog might be my place for a bit of a rant every so often. However, for now I will use it to highlight who I think will be the key men in the upcoming South Africa v England series.

First up is a man not many people have been talking about - JP Duminy. The batsman has quietly become one of South Africa's key men and England should be aware of his talents.

It isn't all about Smith, Kallis and De Villiers. This man can be just as destructive in the middle order. He plays in all forms of the games for his country and I think he will end up being a form in England's side.

You can read an interview with him in this cricket blog covering South Africa v England, where he talks about the coming months, his rise to success and what he made of England denying Graeme Smith a runner in the Champions Trophy earlier this year.

Enjoy.

First of all, welcome to my blog. A place where I can voice my opinions on Lancashire and England. In my first contribution, it is a quick look at the future of Freddie Flintoff.

As it stands, he is a 'Freelance cricketer'. However, he has made it clear that he will play One-Day cricket for Lancashire and England.

To be honest this could go one of two ways:

- Flintoff overcomes all of his injury problems, contributes fully to Lancashire's limited over success and managed to become one of the best ODI players in the World. Something he has revealed as an aim.

- Flintoff plays here and there for both club and country, does OK but never looks fully fit. Constantly talks about his comeback only for it to be delayed by another injury. Flying around the world on one leg playing cricket for lots of money.

Am I being pessimistic if I think it will be much closer to the second option?

Probably, more realistic to be honest. As for his 'replacement' Stuart Broad, this cricket blog on the England all-rounder, seems to highlight that he is having plenty of fitness worries as well.

I hope he doesn't follow the Flintoff model in this respect!
