Default How long will Ponting captain Australia for?

He started playing internationally in 1995 and started captoning Australia in the Test's in 2004. I think he has a lot left in him but some people think he is getting old along side Gilchrist, so the question is how long do you think they will last.

I would think Ponting would captain for the rest of his career, He has a fantastic record as captain. I could only see him losing his captaincy if Australia went into a form slump.

He doesn't look like he has any signs of letting up. I think he can make it to the next world cup if he really pushes himself.

I don't see any reason why he'd even consider retirement at present... he's in the best for of his career! As captain, he's averaging more with the bat now than he did before taking the reigns.
I'd be very surprised if he's not at the helm for the next World Cup.

And - mark my words - Micheal Clarke will be the next Australlian skipper.

I think he could captain Australia for the rest of his career, he has a lot of years left in him yet.

Oh, I can guarantee you that Ponting will be captain for the rest of his career - that's a certainty!

Unlike (almost?) every other international team, Australia doesn't relieve players' of the captaincy before they retire. Once you're the skipper, you're the skipper for the duration of your international career.
That's not to say that Australia doesn't allow people to continue playing Tests once they've retired from ODI matches, so it IS conceivable that Ponting could end-up captaining the Test team & relinquishing the ODI captaincy to someone else - however that will only be once Ponting is no longer playing ODI matches.

Historically, Australia hasn't relieved a captain of his duties before his retirement in over 25 years. IE:
Waugh
Taylor
Border
Hughes
Chappell.G
... & I haven't checked back any further (they're just the captains I've known & watched).

Default He's still the best

Why change a winning fomula? He is in great form as a player which takes a lot of pressure of him and allows him not only to talk the talk but also to walk the walk. Very few captains can do that constantly enough especially when it counts.
