Default England win Old Trafford Test

I cannot recall any recent instance when just two men — in this case Monty Panesar and Steve Harmison — shared all the opposition wickets in both innings, in this 19 for 169!

I agree. Both Pakistan innings were like déja vu.

Much as it was Steve Harmison’s match, I would also say that Monty spun Pakistan out, all the more remarkable given their natural ability against slow bowling.

Yeah! Even Mohammad Yousuf, who showed such impenetrable defence with his double century at Lord’s, appeared clueless to Magical Monty. What a delight the man is turning out to be!

Basically, as Harmison put the batsmen on the back foot, Panesar drew them forward

In dismissing Umar Gul, Harmison took his first 10-wicket haul for England while also becoming the first bowler since Jim Laker, 50 years ago, to take 10-for at Old Trafford.

Wonder what Bob Woolmer will do about the Headingley Test. His side looks shell-shocked.
