Steve Harmison should be the leader of England’s attack in every shape and form, but in the last year he has been happy to pass that mantle to Andrew Flintoff. It is two years since he was ranked as world No.1, but after yesterday’s display, I think a lot of people will wake up, including Harmy himself.

He pitched the ball up and got people out caught behind the wicket. If he’d run in and bounced it half way down each time it would have been very easy to duck! Only Inzamam got out to a legitimately short ball.

And what about Monty Panesar? His support of Harmison was the kind of attacking defence that Shane Warne has spent the last decade providing for Glenn McGrath.

But Warne and McGrath have produced that sort of double-act game after game after game. Harmison, you should remember, has just produced his first five-wicket haul in over a year. So the duo has some way to go.

Mate, we all know Monty fields like a clown, okay? And that he drives Fletch crazy, but a tally of two drops and one catch in seven-and-a-half Tests (two of which came in the same Test at Mumbai) shows that England have found a way to hide him quite effectively in the field. So let's not go on and on about it. Concentrate instead on his complete nerveless-ness and fantastically ice cool temperament.

And like Phil Tufnell, Monty has the ability to float a delivery onto the exact same spot, over after over after over. Ashley Giles can do that sometimes, but Monty just doesn’t tire of it.
