Captain Graeme Smith hit a brilliant unbeaten century to steer South Africa to a nine-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the opening one-day international in Chittagong on Sunday.
The tourists rested Mark Boucher, Jacques Kallis, Makhaya Ntini and Dale Steyn following a Test whitewash but were on top throughout with first ball and then bat.
Mohammad Ashraful - who has yet to taste victory in an ODI since his appointment as Bangladesh skipper in June 2007 - won the toss and chose to bat but his team were skittled for just 178.
Andre Nel took three for 24 - including his 100th ODI victim - with only Tamim Iqbal providing any resistance.
The opener knocked 82 off 98 balls but had little support from his team-mates, with 15 the next highest score.
The Proteas wasted little time in their response - storming to 180 for one from just 36.5 overs.
Smith led the way with an unbeaten 103 from 118 balls while Herschelle Gibbs struck 57.
Gibbs was the only wicket to fall in the South Africa innings - trapped leg before wicket playing down the wrong line to Shakib Al Hasan.
By then, the tourists were already well on their way, however, at 143 for one.
Smith and Hashim Amla (nine not out) completed the comprehensive triumph with over 13 overs to spare.
Earlier, Junaid Siddique (six) was first to go when he top-edged a pull off Charl Langeveldt for Paul Harris to take a comfortable catch at mid-off.
Nel's 100th wicket was Shahriar Nafees, who was tempted by a delivery outside off stump and edged to be caught behind by AB de Villiers, wearing the gloves in the absence of Boucher.
Tamim was standing firm at the other end, but his partners were falling at regular intervals.
Ashraful was next to go, trapped lbw by Albie Morkel before Harris had Shakib Al Hasan caught at mid-wicket by Gibbs.
Tamim and Raqibul Hasan put on 42 before the opener's valiant knock came to an end when he holed out to Morkel at long-on, giving Harris his second wicket.
Just seven runs later Raqibul Hasan gifted Langeveldt his second victim, driving straight at Johan Botha at mid-off for 15, with Bangladesh's innings in turmoil.
Dhiman Ghosh and Mosharraf Hossain Rubel - both on ODI debut - occupied the crease for six overs before the latter was trapped lbw by Botha for eight.
Abdur Razzak bludgeoned a six in his 12-ball 15 before he became Nel's second victim and Shahadat Hossain followed with the very next ball but the seamer was denied the chance of a hat-trick as it was the final ball of his 10 overs.
Morkel had Syed Rasel caught behind by De Villiers for nought as Ghosh was left stranded on 15, setting South Africa what turned out to be a straightforward target of 179.
The remaining two matches in the series take place in Dhaka on Wednesday and Friday.
