Unhappy The cupboard is bare

In the ICC’s new Future Tours Program, New Zealand play 47 Tests in the next six years. I counted and found that only Zimbabwe (39) and Bangladesh (41) play less. Fans in New Zealand have accused NZ Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden and his board of overseeing “the constructive dismissal of Test cricket” from New Zealand. What say?

It’s really tragic, because New Zealand not only has a great tradition of Test cricket, but also a record of remarkable Test performances. It’s sad that commercial considerations are putting paid to that tradition.

Teamgame, it’s got nothing to do with the FTP. The real reason for lack of Test cricket in NZ is al about money. While a Test would struggle to draw even 1,000 spectators, ODIs and especially 20-20 draw nearly full houses. How can you argue with that kind of money?

From what I recall, Martin Snedden was only an average Test cricketer but even he played more than two Tests in 18 months. How could he cook up this mess?

Jeremy, ex-cricketers do not necessarily make the best cricket administrators. Unless we recognize this, cricket in NZ will never go forward.

What appals me is that New Zealand Cricket cut a Test from Sri Lanka’s tour and replaced it with two 20-20 games. Snedden apparently said the decision was made because of weather concerns. But I think he let the cat out of the bag when he added that preparations for the World Cup was also a factor. “There is a strong view among us that playing the 20-20 game helps develop certain aspects of the one-day game,” were his exact words. So are NZ officially out of the Test circuit?

New Zealand are being to picky with there matches, i thought you looked at the roster (or fixture) and saw what was on and aranged to be in every competition. That might not be how it works but if it was Cricket would be alot more entertaining.
