Default Pollock: The future looks bright

Retired all-rounder Shaun Pollock believes the future of South African cricket is in good hands.

Pollock, whose final appearance for the Proteas came on Sunday in the one-day international victory over West Indies, is convinced the nation has a great deal of talent which, if nurtured, will lead to future success.

He told the Star: "Obviously we need, from a SA cricket perspective, to be conscious of nurturing young guys and looking after the talent that we've got.

"(The future) looks very good. We've got some young guys who have stepped up to the plate. Dale Steyn has been absolutely superb and we've got young finds like Morne Morkel and Monde Zondeki coming through in the bowling ranks so that's fantastic.

'We need to be conscious of nurturing young guys and looking after the talent that we've got."

Pollock singled out JP Duminy as a particularly important talent for the future.

He added: "The Test batting line-up seems pretty settled, the Test team seems pretty settled," he said. "The one-day side with people like JP (Duminy) looks good too.

"There was a big call from the coach and captain for the young bucks to stand up and JP's done just that and played superbly well throughout."
