Good on Sanga and Mahela! All the more delightful because of those two dropped catches off Sanga (on 28 & 99) by Jacques Rudolph.

Muttiah Muralitharan must be licking his lips at the prospect of bowling in the second innings with a sizeable lead on the board.

I think the biggest bonus was the performance of Dilhara Fernando, who seems to have overcome the overstepping malaise that kept him out of the team in England.

Yeah, he bowled really intelligently on a pitch that demanded him to be straight and full. You will have noticed that three of his victims were bowled and one lbw

What inspired captaincy from Mahela after lunch! When he tossed the ball to Farvez Maharoof, I thought we’d had it. His three-over new ball spell had been really ordinary and the lone over before lunch had been expensive. The obvious choice would have been Fernando or Lasith Malinga, but Jayawardene thought Maharoof would come good against left-handed Jacques Rudolph and he was so right!
