Waqar Younis predicts close final
The World Twenty20 is set for a final to savour on Sunday after Michael Hussey brought Australia back from the dead to sneak past Pakistan and book their place against England.
Pakistan coach Waqar Younis could hardly believe Hussey's heroics in a 24-ball innings of 60 not out as he almost single-handedly lifted Australia to an unlikely three-wicket win at the Beausejour Stadium, having needed 18 off the last over.
Previous champions Pakistan have now lost to Australia twice and England once in this Caribbean tournament - and Waqar rates it almost too close to call on who will claim the silverware.
"It's going to be a very, very good game," he said.
"We've seen a great game here, and I'm looking forward to another thriller in the final.
"They are both playing really well. England are on top of their form. It's just a matter of holding your nerve in the final.
"But the way Australia played here, they are very dangerous."
Waqar appears to just narrowly favour Australia.
"When you have such momentum with you it's always handy," he said.
"They played like champions. They haven't won the Twenty20 yet, but this is their opportunity - and I think they're going to come really hard at the English team.
"But I can't really say England are out of it, because they are playing superbly."
Australia remain unbeaten in the tournament, but no one has pushed them harder than Pakistan.
"They're a very fine batting side - because 191 on a surface that was turning a bit is tough, with our spinners," Waqar added.
"But it's hard to beat them when they've still got batters coming in at number nine. They can maybe improve a little bit in their bowling, but they are a very fine batting side."
Australia captain Michael Clarke hailed Hussey's contribution as a "freakish performance from an unbelievable cricketer".
He believes winning from such an unlikely position gives his team a major lift for one last push.
"We take a lot of confidence going into Barbados," he said.
"Our mindset, after what Huss showed here, is that we are just never beaten until the game is over.
"It is going to be a wonderful final. England are playing very good cricket and we've come off one of the best wins of our career.
"I love playing against England, but we're just going to have to be at our best.
"Kevin Pietersen coming back into form is huge for them. He's a wonderful player in all three forms of game. On their side of the draw, they have been the best team."
