Australia put Ireland in to bat in cricket World Cup

Australia captain Ricky Ponting elected to field after winning the toss against debutants Ireland in the World Cup Super Eights match here on Friday.

Defending champions Australia are unbeaten in the tournament with eight points from four games. They now need just one more win to make sure of a place in the semi-finals.

Ireland have yet to open their account after four matches.

Australia made one change from the side which beat England in the previous match, bringing in Stuart Clark in place of Nathan Bracken.

Australia: Ricky Ponting (capt), Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Michael Clarke, Andrew Symonds, Michael Hussey, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, Stuart Clark, Shaun Tait, Glenn McGrath.

Ireland: Trent Johnston (capt), William Porterfield, Jeremy Bray, Eoin Morgan, Niall O'Brien, Kevin O'Brien, Andrew White, Kyle McCallan, John Mooney, Dave Langford-Smith, Boyd Rankin.

Umpires: Billy Bowden (NZL) and Rudi Koertzen (RSA)

TV umpire: Steve Bucknor (WIS)

Match referee: Ranjan Madugalle (SRI)
