AUSTRALIA VS NEW ZEALAND
1st Test: 20/11/2008 - 24/11/2008
The 'Gabba: Brisbane, Australia

New Zealand have won the toss and elected to field first. Looked like a good move with Southee taking the wickets of Hayden, Katich and Ponting early on. Clarke and Hussey steadied Australia until Martin got the breakthrough, claiming Hussey LBW for 35. Symonds made his return to international test cricket and made a start, but fell for 26 at the hands on O'Brien. Watson fell for 1, also at the hands of O'Brien.

Can New Zealand continue the pressure? Will Australia fight back?

New Zealand have done well considering they came into this match as the overwhelming underdogs. The team is widely inexperienced. Also, missing Jacob Oram was a heavy blow.

Australia of course are coming back from their series defeat at the hands of India. Confidence will be an issue for them.

New Zealand is absolutely giving it to Australia. 8/160 as of the 60th over. Michael Clarke is still unbeaten on 63.

Low scoring game. New Zealand's batting let them down on most fronts, with the exception of Taylor and Flynn. Ryder showed some promise. Their fielding also let them down in the second innings, twcie dropping Katich in the 70's.

Australia needed this win to restore some confidence. Mitchell Johnson was superb, as was Clarke in the first innings and Katich in the second innings.

Adelaide should be an interesting test, as it generally favours batsmen.
