Bangladesh has cancelled this month's cricket tour by Pakistan after authorities said they are unable to provide adequate security to a visiting team.

"Our national security is not yet foolproof and in these circumstances it is not possible to invite any foreign team," junior sports minister Ahad Ali Sarkar told reporters late Tuesday.

"That's why the tour of Pakistan has been postponed for an indefinite period," he added.

The Pakistan tour, originally scheduled for March 10-22, was postponed suddenly after a mutiny by border guards last month cost the lives of more than 70 people in Dhaka, days after a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board rescheduled the tour to start from March 28 subject to government security clearance.

The BCB still hopes the series, comprising five limited-overs internationals and two Twenty20 matches, can take place later this year.

"We will be in touch with the Pakistan Cricket Board to arrange the tour sometime between October and December this year," BCB spokesman Jalal Yunus said.
