Steve Harmison should be the leader of England’s attack in every shape and form, but in the last year he has been happy to pass that mantle to Andrew Flintoff. It is two years since he was ranked as world No.1, but after yesterday’s display, I think a lot of people will wake up, including Harmy himself.

And what about Monty Panesar? His support of Harmison was the kind of attacking defence that Shane Warne has spent the last decade providing for Glenn McGrath.
