Gilchrist: It was a collective failure
Hyderabad captain Adam Gilchrist refused to blame any individual player for his side's disappointing performance in the Indian Premier League.
"I think we could say that all of us in our team had a couple of glimpses of fantastic performances and probably too many glimpses of disappointing performances," Gilchrist said on the eve of their IPL match against Bangalore on Thursday.
"It is not targeting anybody individually; it is targeting all of us. It has been an inconsistent performance so far. But we have got time to rectify that," he said.
Gilchrist said it has been a collective failure. Hyderabad has won only three of nine matches and are currently placed seventh in the IPL rankings.
"If we have to make it to the semi-finals, we have to win every game. We know what we have to do now. There are no second chances," he said.
He also said that the team lost some close matches.
"We have not played consistently well but T20 can go either way. It is a fine line between success and disappointment. We have got a lot of work to do and we have to give our best shot at it," he said.
Asked whether he is prepared for spinners being employed by Bangalore as opening bowlers, Gilchrist said, "It will be interesting to see whether that will happen in this ground and on this wicket. That is the decision Anil has to make.
