In what came as a morale booster for Indian Cricket League-recruited Pakistani players, chief selector, Abdul Qadir has admitted that the cricketers signed up with the rebel league qualify to play for the national side on the basis of pure merit.

"We can only select the ICL players once the Pakistan Cricket Board clears them to play for the national team. But there is no doubt some of the ICL players can play for Pakistan," Qadir said.

Many of the two dozen players signed up with the ICL are presently playing in the domestic season after the Sindh High Court last month lifted a ban on them from playing in domestic cricket.

However, the ban from playing for the national team still remains on the ICL players.
