Chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar believes fast bowler Ishant Sharma is "the find of the season" for Indian cricket.

Although Sharma took only six wickets in three Tests against Australia, he was impressive in most spells, troubling the likes of Ricky Ponting and Andrew Symonds.

And the 19-year-old Delhi paceman has also looked good in limited over games, especially on bouncy pitches.

"Without doubt, he has been the find of the season. He has progressed a lot skill-wise and fitness-wise in the last 12 months," Vengsarkar told The Hindu newspaper.

"He has demonstrated in ample measure that he has improved with every outing.

"He has developed the delivery that goes away, and made the straighter one a little more potent and uses it to good effect.

"Ishant has the height and has improved his fitness, and that has largely helped in his progress. With height he can extract good bounce.

"At this level, a bowler must bring in variety to keep the batsmen guessing all the time.

"The Australian wickets have pronounced bounce. When he bowls on the wickets in the sub-continent, he has to change his length. He has to retain whatever he has learnt in Australia."
