IPL Season 3: A stats review

MS Dhoni accomplished another feat in his glittering cricketing career, with a magnificent triumph in the third edition of the IPL.

By Rajesh Kumar

Chennai had lost by three wickets to Jaipur at Mumbai in the inaugural edition of the IPL two years ago while Hyderabad defeated Bangalore by just six runs at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg last year.

Suresh Raina's sensational knock was the turning point of the match. He was dropped twice in the last six overs, moving from 13 off 13 balls to 57 not out off 35 balls. The Chennai batsmen added 100 runs in the last eight overs, ensuring a defendable total, which proved too much for Mumbai.

In response to Chennai's 168 for five, Mumbai failed to chase it as three vital wickets of Ambati Rayudu, Saurabh Tiwary and Jean-Paul Duminy put pressure on the remaining batsmen.

Raina was justifiably adjudged the Man of the Match for his superb all-round display, especially his batting and brilliant fielding while Sachin Tendulkar was adjudged the Player of the Series for the highest run-aggregate in any IPL competition.
