The Ireland squad were thrust into an extra match in South Africa yesterday and, unfortunately, played like it, crashing to a seven wickets defeat to Zimbabwe A.

The warm-up game, ahead of the World Cup qualifying tournament which starts next week, was originally scheduled for today, but brought forward so that the squad can fit in an extra match against Afghanistan today. All it did was teach the squad that preparation is everything.

Only Gary Wilson, with 56 from 100 balls, including five fours a six, put up any resistance as Ireland, the top Associate side in the world, were bowled out for 118 in the 39th over. Andrew White, with 12, was the only other batsman to reach double figures and Eoin Morgan, in his first match since his marathon journey from New Zealand, was run out for two.
