Michael Vaughan fears that he may never play cricket again, after undergoing a fourth operation on his right knee.

So we shall soon know, one way or another, which will be a relief. He’s kept us dangling for long enough.

I don’t see him being missed as captain too much. Not only is there Andrew Flintoff, but also Andrew Strauss, who was impeccable during the Old Trafford Test.

Just read this interview of his in Mail on Sunday: “I have another three weeks on crutches and then, around September 22, 12 weeks after the operation. I’ll try to start a little light running. If all goes well, my aim is to be playing some kind of cricket in late December or early January.” Bang goes the Ashes, but don’t write the man off yet.
