SHELLEY Nitschke is not the first Australian all-rounder to have yearned for the serenity of a fishing boat, a line and the bite of a barramundi. Fortunately for the country's World Cup defence, she resisted that urge late last year when the pressure of juggling two jobs in cricket began to gnaw at her enjoyment of the game.

Nitschke did have to sacrifice something, but saved Australian cricket another "gone fishing" incident when she weighed up her priorities three months out from the World Cup, and decided to give up her day job in the offices of the South Australian Cricket Association.
