-"No talks on Butt's replacement"
Ijaz Hussain Jakhrani denied that President Asif Ali Zardari had asked for potential replacements for PCB chief Ejaz Butt.
Pakistan Federal minister for sports, Jakrani, however, said that Zardari has asked him to take adequate steps to improve cricket set up in the country.

"No it is not correct that I have been specifically asked to suggest two names for the Chairmanship of the board, but yes, the President has instructed me to take steps to improve the overall cricket set up and that includes everything," Jakrani told PTI.

President Zardari is the chief patron of the board and appoints its Chairman directly.

His choice as Chairman, Butt, has been under fire in recent weeks and is being blamed for not running the PCB properly, taking unilateral decisions, spoiling relations with other cricket boards and also for the problems in the national team which has been swamped in Australia.

But Butt, a former Test player, has steadfastly refused to resign despite being asked to step down by the National Assembly standing committee on sports and has insisted that he will only hang his boots if Zardari asks him to do so.

Jakhrani said no particular names were discussed when he called on Zaradri earlier this week but in general all cricket issues came under discussion.

"Yes the President is concerned and wants to see rapid improvement in the cricket matters and I have been asked to take whatever steps are necessary for this," Jakhrani added.

The PCB has set up an inquiry committee mostly comprising paid officials of the board to probe into the poor performance of the national team in Australia where it lost the Test and one-day series and were also beaten in the lone Twenty20 international.
