All of Pakistan’s top players have been given a 25% rise in their contracts. This means Inzamam, Shoaib Akhtar, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi, who were on a monthly retainer of US$ 3750, now get 25% more. Players in the category of Mohammad Sami, Danish Kaneria, Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal used to receive US$ 2500 a month so that will mean 25% extra. Players in the bottom rung were paid US$ 1250 a month + 25%. It gets better, because the incentives mean that for every Test or ODI win against England, West Indies (at home) and South Africa (away series) each player will be paid US$ 3333. And each series win against England, West Indies or South Africa will give the players a further US$ 8333.33.

Yeah ok, that may seem like a lot of money for us, but when compared to other international sports like football, tennis and golf, the money in cricket is nothing. So we shouldn’t remark on the fact that a cricketer of the caliber of Inzy is being paid this amount.
