Price making comeback against Windies

When West Indies visit Zimbabwe later this month, they are likely to face an old spin bowling terror. Ray Price has accepted a recall from the Zimbabwe Cricket Board and will make his international comeback in the five-match One-day International series against West Indies.

The 31-year-old Price was one of 15 Zimbabwe cricketers that walked out on the national team three years ago to protest the ZC regime.

Price has spent the last few years playing in England for Worcestershire, and he had planned to resume his international career for England, but just one year short of qualifying for the Poms, he has turned back to the land of his birth after rejecting a new deal with the county side.

Media reports indicate he consulted former Zimabwe captain Heath Streak, who led the walk-out of the players, and other former team-mates before accepting the ZC's invitation to play.

Price has captured 69 wickets in 18 Tests at 35.86 and 15 wickets at 61.13 apiece in 26 ODIs, but his most memorable moment came in the first Test against West Indies at Harare four years ago.

Price snared six wickets for 73 runs from 37.2 overs, as West Indies were dismissed for 335 to concede a first innings lead of 172.

The left-arm spin bowler again came into the frame in the second innings, when he collected four for 88 from 38 overs, as West Indies, chasing a highly improbable, if not impossible 373, slumped to 207 for nine.

The visitors had to rely on their last wicket pair of Ridley Jacobs and batting bunny Fidel Edwards to play out the last half-hour and 71 deliveries to save them from their first Test defeat at the hands of the Zimbabweans.

Price suffers from partial deafness owing to the effects of meningitis as a youngster. He is a trained installer of refrigeration and air-conditioning units.

He is also a handy golfer, and his uncle, Nick, is one of world's best: winning the British Open 13 years ago.
