Hosts South Africa will take on Sri Lanka in the opening match if the ICC Champions Trophy tomorrow. South Africa are ranked number 1 in the world in ODI cricket and will be desperate to finally win an ICC event after coming up short so many times in recent history.
South Africa hosted the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in 2007 and despite being unbeaten throughout the group stages Graeme Smith's men were well beaten by Indian in the Super 8 stage and as a result were eliminated from the competition by virtue of having an inferior run rate to India and New Zealand.
This year in the Twenty20 World Cup South Africa went into the tournament as overwhelming favourites and the way they brushed aside their opponents with ease. However South Africa ran into an inspired Pakistani team in the last 4 and they once again failed to realise their dream, Pakistan went on to win the title.
South Africa have many a point to prove at this year's Champions Trophy and it all starts tomorrow against Sri Lanka.
If South Africa can maintain the form they have shown this year then they have every chance of upsetting the Betting Oddsand winning the title.
