South Africa coach Mickey Arthur has confirmed Dale Steyn will be assessed on Thursday to see if he is fit enough to take part in the final Test against West Indies in Durban.

The 24-year-old paceman sustained a hamstring injury during the second Test in Cape Town last week and is considered doubtful for the series decider.

But Arthur is keen to give Steyn, the top wicket-taker in the series with 13 victims, until the last possible moment to prove his fitness.

"He'll probably only bowl (in the nets) at about 70 per cent," said Arthur,

"He is making some nice improvement, but we'll probably only have final clarity on the morning of the Test at Kingsmead on Thursday."
