After narrowly avoiding a 7-0 whitewash at Chester-le-Street, Strauss is hoping the team can cling to that momentum when England open their campaign in South Africa against Sri Lanka.

Despite England taking a hammering in the ODI's and previously enduring a demanding Ashes summer, Strauss is relishing the prospect of turning things around at the tournament.

"It's the Champions Trophy, it's one of the big events, to be honest." said the 32-year-old skipper.
