NAGPUR, India, Oct 14 - Andrew Symonds smashed a century to power Australia to 317 for eight in the sixth one-day international against India on Sunday.

The 32-year-old, subjected to monkey chants by spectators in the previous match, struck 107 not out off just 88 balls and shared in two half-century partnerships to guide the visitors to a dominating position.

Symonds lashed nine fours and four sixes for his sixth one-day century and put on 75 runs for the fifth wicket with Brad Haddin (25) and 90 for the next with James Hopes (39) to help the side recover after a middle-order collapse.

Opener Adam Gilchrist struck a second successive fifty (51) and put on 96 for the second wicket with skipper Ricky Ponting (49) to give the visitors a blazing start after choosing to bat on a two-paced Nagpur pitch.
