Will someone explain to me why we are going to Sri Lanka with four pace bowlers?

The wise Kiran More has said the idea is to expand India’s fast-bowling depth, so that bowlers like RP Singh can replace those who haven’t performed well enough.

Like who? The only two people left out from the previous squad are batsmen Venugopal Rao and Robin Uthappa, so which pace bowler has been unsuccessful? It would definitely have made sense to leave out Pathan. The wise men have also seen fit to once again ignore Anil Kumble – though Powar is in – and that defies logic for a series in Sri Lanka. Can you imagine SL ignoring Muralitharan under any circumstances?

I agree with that. A team should be picked at least partly on the basis of the conditions they will play in, rather than stick to a one-size-fits-all policy that is unlikely to pay dividends.
