The stakes have been raised for next Saturday's Twenty20 Cup finale with the winners standing to gain an extra £140,000 in a showdown with their West Indies counterparts.

The two finalists already have the enticement of participation in the new £2.5 million Champions League, also featuring teams from India, South Africa and Australia. In addition, The Sunday Telegraph has learned, the winners will play the current Stanford 20/20 champions, Trinidad and Tobago, in a tournament prior to the $20m winner-takes-all England v Stanford Super Stars match on Nov 1.

Sir Allen Stanford will pay for the winning county to travel to Antigua in the last week of October, as well as providing them with a £50,000 participation fee. Should they win, the successful county will also receive a further £90,000. Stanford will be in attendance when Kent play Essex, and Middlesex take on either Durham or Glamorgan for a place in the final in Southampton on Saturday evening.
