USA v Canada set for Memorial Day weekend​

The 165th Anniversary of what is billed as the oldest international sporting event in the world - cricket between USA and Canada - is to be celebrated during the 2009 Memorial Day weekend (May 23-25).

This is when the event has been scheduled in the past, and the tradition is to be maintained this year as well.

By a happy coincidence, the 2009 Memorial Day weekend is also when the West Zone semi-finals of the US National Championships are scheduled to take place in the San Francisco Area - the East Zone sem-finals are scheduled for the same time in Orlando, Florida.

To add to the festivities, the Junior (Under-17} National tournament was already planned for this weekend, and preparations for holding that event are well under way.

The one obstacle is the USA Cricket Association, which has been known in the past for its failure to handle the logistics of such events.

USA Captain Massiah on money, captaincy and growth of cricket in America

United States captain Steve Massiah is the international manager of an import and exporting business, which has him tied to a desk for hours and takes him away from home for weeks. He knows the inner workings of big business and what it needs to turn the wheels.

Arguably the most talented batsman in US cricket history, Massiah, who bats at No. 3 with eight international centuries on his resume, told DreamCricket.com in a wide ranging interview that "a lack of funding was handicapping the game in the US."
