Australian batsman Michael Clarke has warned India that verbal warfare could backfire as the two camps continue the mind games in the build-up to the 3 Mobile Boxing Day Test.

Clarke told a huge media contingent at the MCG on Christmas Eve that the battle-hardened Australians thrived on being sledged and performed even better when challenged.

With confidence riding high in the tourists' camp after a series win over arch-rival Pakistan, the players are talking tough.

But Clarke, who debuted against India in the five-day game and scored a memorable 151 in his maiden Test innings, has cautioned against focusing on launching a verbal tirade of the tongue.
