Chris Gayle is considering stepping down as West Indies captain after just 15 matches in charge because he is frustrated with selection policies, a Trinidad newspaper reported.

The Trinidad and Tobago Express quoted West Indies Cricket Board chief executive Donald Peters as saying: "I am aware he is considering not making himself available for the captaincy."

Peters said, however, that the board has not received any official notification from the left-handed Jamaican opener.

In 15 tests and one-dayers, Gayle has led the West Indies to five wins and nine losses. Seven of the losses took place during a difficult series against Australia in May and June.
