Zimbabwe Cricket President Peter Chingoka says he will ask the International Cricket Council to keep his team’s May-June 2009 British cricket tour on track.
Chingoka made the announcement at a weekend news conference in Karachi, Pakistan, where the team is currently on tour.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said last week that his government wants to bar the tour to boost pressure on Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and his ruling ZANU-PF party to institute democratic and economic reforms.
Sports commentator Michael Kariati told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that despite the ongoing controversy, the Zimbabwean team was feeling confident as its Pakistani tour opened.
