You should attempt to play the pull to a short- pitched ball. Don’t attempt to pull a ball that is over pitched or of good length, as this will lead to disaster. To play the pull, go back and across with the right foot so that the right toe is pointing almost straight down the pitch towards the bowler. Then as the ball comes along, pull it hard to mid-wicket, at the same time pivoting the body, keeping the legs fairly apart and rolling the wrists over to keep the ball on the ground.

nah the hook shot's too difficult. when ur facing a quick and u see it short, especially if ur having trouble with the short one, ur best chance it to get INSIDE OF THE BALL and just run it away. practise with a ball in a stocking, best way to get over it

 

look at younis khans technique step forward and then rock back ward and a nice hook...

 

yes younis kahn technique is a good example as a short player myself short ball can be difficult to play jayasuriya plays the pull shot well for a short player

 

Mate, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over the short stuff...
The stumps are only 28 inches tall, so the short stuff can't bowl you.
If you try to pull or hook, when it's not in your natural game, you'll get out to it - almost without fail.
You're better off scoring off the shots you can play, & working the short ball behind square (on either side) with soft hands when the line/length permit it.

I once spent 3 hours at the crease trying to save an innings that had started collapsing (18/6!). I was determined not to play the hook or pull shots, given that they're not a part of my regular arsenal... however, after about 2 hours, from seemingly nowhere came two of the best hook shots I've ever hit. And to this day I have no where they came from.
The point is that if you spend long enough at the crease, just playing YOUR shots, somewhere along the line your natural instincts will kick in, & your vocabulary of shots evolves & grows.

Good post. Playing your natural game is the way. In time you could add pull and hook shots, but it's something that needs to be worked on for a long time.
